Green PIN is an instant PIN generation or regeneration feature available for Debit Cards via ATM. It uses a One-Time Password (OTP) sent to the customer’s registered mobile number, allowing the customer to set or reset their debit card PIN directly at any Bank of India ATM.

What is Green PIN?

Green PIN is a secure and eco-friendly way to generate or reset your debit card PIN using OTP-based authentication. Instead of receiving a physical PIN mailer, the bank sends a One-Time Password (OTP) to your registered mobile number, which you can use to set or reset your debit card PIN at an ATM.

This method is quick, eco-friendly, and minimizes the chances of PIN theft or unauthorized use. It's commonly used when:

A new debit card is issued
You’ve forgotten your PIN
Your card is inactive or temporarily blocked

Green PIN is supported only at ATMs of the issuing bank (e.g., Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, etc.), and your mobile number must be linked with your account.

Few Steps to Generate Green PIN/ATM at Bank of India ATM

When can you generate a Green PIN?

When a new debit card is issued by the branch.
If you forget your PIN and need to regenerate it for your existing card.

Steps -

Insert your Debit Card at any Bank of India ATM, then remove it.

Select Language on the screen.

Choose the option “Forgot/Create PIN (Green PIN)” from the two displayed options.

Click on “Generate OTP” to get a 6-digit OTP on your mobile number.

Reinsert your Debit Card and remove it again.

Select “Forgot/Create PIN (Green PIN)” once more.

Choose “Validate OTP”, then enter the 6-digit OTP on the screen and click Continue.

Enter a 4-digit PIN of your choice and re-enter it for confirmation.

You can see the message popping up - “The PIN is changed/created successfully”.

Important Notes:

Your mobile number must be registered with the Bank of India to use the Green PIN service.
The green PIN cannot be generated for hot-listed or inactive debit cards. It works for active, inactive, and temporarily blocked cards (due to incorrect PIN attempts).
The process can only be done at Bank of India ATMs.
