About Bandhan Bank

The build up to the fascinating launch of Bandhan Bank began when India was busy electing the new government for the 2014-19 period. It was April 2014 when the banking regulator Reserve Bank of India (RBI) gave an in-principle approval for the setting up of Bandhan Bank, which previously was working as non-banking finance company engaged in the business of providing micro-finance. After 8 months, Bandhan Financial Holdings announced the decision of incorporating Bandhan Bank as its wholly-owned subsidiary in Dec 2014. The clock went into June 2015 and then, the RBI finally made the decks cleared for Bandhan Bank. Two months later and the much-anticipated launch of the bank happened in the city of Kolkata. The launch ceremony was attended by the bank office bearers as well as the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who happened to inaugurate the bank. It started with an impressive size of operation-501 branches, 50 ATMs and 2,022 doorstep service centres (DSCs). It was clear that the bank had come out with an intent. And within a span of 2 years, the branches, ATMs, and DSCs have gone on to more than 800, 270 and 2400, respectively, covering all the states of India. Amazing, isn’t it? Such expansion can inspire many banks who are in the space for long but battling to extend their reach.

Backed by the shareholders including Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Caladium Investment Pte. Ltd., Bandhan Employee Welfare Trust and few individuals, the bank is set to score big as the time moves along. It offers a rich mix of custom loan and deposit products to customers, regardless of their locations, whether it is urban, semi-urban or rural.

The Kolkata-headquartered bank has a large number of branches in the city. The number can easily count around 50-100. As soon as you step out to these branches, the officials will hear your needs and then suggest a suitable product which can fulfill the same. Unaware of the branches?
