About Bank of Baroda

Do you know the men behind the pillars of Bank of Baroda (BoB)? When was it established? How it became a major bank in India? Well, it was the emperors who were the architect of BoB. These were Maharaja of Baroda and Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III who did that many summers ago in 1908. One must say it was a grand beginning considering the situation the country was in. On one hand, our ancestors were sacrificing themselves to gain freedom for the country, there were these gentlemen who laid the foundation stone for a bank that has gone on to become one of the most preferred banks with the passage of time.

The real success of the bank started when the Government of India nationalized it in 1969. Post the massive success, the bank keeps redefining itself at various points of time. Amidst all these, the bank has managed to set a standard in various verticals of banking-corporate, retail, NRI or MSME-by providing them unique services all the time. From loans to deposits, it has re-engineered its products to fulfill the dreams of many.

Now what Bank of Baroda does well is to combat the competition with its unique offering. As we all know, the rate cut war is on a full swing post-demonetization. Almost every bank has come with an attractive home loan offer to lure the customers. But who won the race in the end? Your own Bank of Baroda that has now lowered the interest rates on its home loan to an industry low of 8.35% per annum for new borrowers. Another significant announcement that came was to do away with the charges that were earlier borne by the customers wanting to transfer their home loan balance to Marginal Cost of Lending Rate (MCLR) from the base rate. The charges for the same is around ₹ 5,000-10,000. These announcements have certainly aided the growth of BoB in the home loan segment.

From the time of being operated in a small building in the early 20th Century to managing the operation of more than 6,000 branches and 1,000 ATMs, the bank has placed itself well in an intensely competitive banking space full of large, mid and small players. But where it figures among these categories, it is the initial one i.e. large. It didn’t stop with branches in India alone as it expands itself overseas by establishing branches in high-profile locations like Dubai, Hong Kong, Africa, Middle East, the US, Australia and other centres of the globe.

Kochi, the city in the heart of Kerala, is banked well by Bank of Baroda that has 10-20 branches there. Want to know all those branches? Get that in a table below.
