About Jammu and Kashmir Bank

Jammu and Kashmir bank is one of the banks that was established Pre- Independence in the year 1938. The bank became operational a year later in 1939. The bank was formed under the letter patent issued by the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir Hari Singh. He called out on the noted dignitaries to invest in the bank and become the shareholder. The bank was first of its kind and was considered as Semi- government bank as the capital invested was contributed by the government and the people under the control of the government. The bank has to suffer the loss during the partition as two of its branch along with the cash and other assets were on the other side of the border.

The bank later was included as the government bank following the extension of Central laws to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It came under the Indian company act, 1956 and became the government company. The bank opened with the aim to provide the financial aid to the people of the state. Later it extended the network and opened several branches in the country. It has the total of 865 branches and 1035 ATMs across the country. The mission of the bank is to catalyze the economic transformation and capitalize the growth. The main objective of the bank is to become the super specialist bank in the country.
