The compact SUV segment witnessed a buzz when the Korean automaker Hyundai launched Creta way back in 2015. The demand for the car was huge as the total booking went up to 15,000 on its launch date. Yes, the automobile company commenced the booking before the launch. The 5-seater vehicle hit the Indian roads in as many as 10 variants equipped with both petrol and diesel engines. Also, when you are servicing a loan and suddenly gets a heavy surplus, you could think of using the same to pay off the debt even before the expiry of the tenure. You can be right in your move to pre-pay the loan. But there is a cost to it. And that is the prepayment charge calculated at about 2%-5% of the outstanding loan amount plus 18% GST. So, you need to do the cost-benefit analysis by finding the difference between the interest to be saved on prepayment and the charges to be borne on paying off the loan in full.
