According to UIDAI's official website, if you use the online Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) for update, your mobile number must be registered with Aadhaar; otherwise, you can visit the nearest Permanent Enrolment centre with supporting documents. This page describes how to register or update your mobile number with your Aadhar Card, as well as the necessary documents. The government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar to a variety of documents and financial instruments, making the Aadhar card one of the most popular forms of identification. If you do not have an Aadhaar card, you can apply for one and have your mobile number registered in the Aadhar card during the enrollment process. Once Aadhaar is linked to these instruments, the government begins transferring subsidies under various schemes such as DBT, Pahal, and others directly into the beneficiary's bank account, with a confirmation message sent to the registered mobile number. If your mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar, you will not receive such messages and will be unable to track the benefits for which you are eligible.

Steps to Register Your Mobile Number with Aadhar Card

The SSUP provided an online facility for registering mobile numbers in Aadhaar. However, as of now, the service has been discontinued, and applicants must visit an Aadhaar Enrolment/Update centre to register/update their mobile number in Aadhaar. The process of updating can take up to 90 days. To register your mobile number in Aadhaar, follow these steps:

  • Click on the UIDAI Official Website to find the nearest enrolment centre.
  • Complete the Aadhaar Correction Form.
  • Mention your current mobile phone number, which needs to be updated in Aadhaar.
  • Fill out the form and provide your biometric information for authentication.
  • The executive hands you the acknowledgment slip.
  • The slip has an Update Request Number on it (URN)
  • The URN can be used to monitor the status of Aadhaar update requests.
  • After updating your mobile number in Aadhaar, you do not need to obtain another Aadhaar card.
  • Once your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar, you will begin receiving Aadhaar OTPs for a variety of services.
  • You can also check the status of your Aadhaar update by dialling UIDAI's toll-free number 1947.

Reasons to Register Your Mobile Number in Aadhar

There are several reasons why you should register your mobile phone number with Aadhaar.

  • An OTP is sent to the registered mobile number in order to access the majority of Aadhaar-related services. This OTP should be provided in order to use the service, adding another layer of security to Aadhaar. You will not be able to use these services if your phone number is not linked to Aadhaar.
  • You must register your mobile number with UIDAI in order to use any Aadhaar-related online services.
  • To download your Aadhaar online, you must enter the OTP that was sent to your mobile number.
  • Only if your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar can you download the mAadhaar app and carry Aadhaar on your phone.
