How to Register and Activate UAN (Universal Account Number)

UAN (Universal Account Number) is the 12 digit number which is issued by the Ministry of Labor and Employment and is generated and assigned by the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). Every individual registered with EPFO has a unique UAN and they need it at the time of login. Complete Process of Logging into EPFO through UAN

You know that you can’t log in to the employee or employer portal without a UAN and password. So, first, you have to make a UAN registration and then activate the UAN. Go through the following steps to make a successful EPFO Login.

Registration of UAN

  • Open the EPF Member Portal on your PC or Laptop.
  • Now in the Tabs Present on the Top, expand the Service Tab which is reflected in the top left side and click on the ‘For Employee’ option.
  • Then click on the ‘Member UAN/Online service (OCS/OTCP) under the Service Head.
  • Thereafter, the Employee Login Portal Page will open.
  • On the same page go to the Important links column on the right side corner, and click on ‘Know your UAN’ option.
  • Now enter your registered mobile number and given Captcha and click on ‘Request OTP’.
  • The OTP will be sent to the mobile number that you have entered recently.
  • Now enter the PIN to verify your request and click on ‘Validate OTP’ option given below.
  • Your UAN will be generated on the portal thereafter.
  • Finally, create a username and a Password for the UAN Portal so that you can successfully conduct EPFO Login in the future.

Steps to Activate UAN

Once you have created a UAN and PF member I.D., you must follow the steps given below for UAN Activation:-

  • Go to the official website of EPFO.
  • Now, in the Tabs Present on the Top, expand the Service Tab which is reflected in the top left side ,and click on the ‘For Employees’.
  • Then click on the ‘Member UAN/Online service (OCS/OTCP)’ under the Service Head.
  • Thereafter the Employee Login Portal will open. On the same page go to Important links column on the right side corner, and click on ‘Activate UAN’ option.
  • You will be redirected to the page where you have to enter UAN/Member I.D/Pan Card/Aadhaar card details (any one of them)
  • Now provide your Name, DOB, Mobile Number, Email ID and enter the given Captcha shown in the box.
  • Then click on the ‘Get Authorization PIN’ link.
  • Click on the ‘I Agree’ Checkbox and enter the OTP sent on your registered mobile number.
  • Finally, you will get your UAN number with the password. This completes your UAN activation and you can access the EPFO portal.

Documents Needed for UAN Registration

  • Updated Aadhaar Card of the Individual(It is mandatory as aadhar card is linked with both your mobile number and with your bank account)
  • PAN Card of the individual
  • Bank Account Details which includes your Bank name, Account number and IFSC code.
  • Identity Proof like Passport, Driving License, Voter’s I.D. Card or Aadhaar card(any one of them)

  • Visit the UAN Member e-sewa page.
  • Enter your UAN number, your password and the captcha code.

Services Offered on UAN Member e-Sewa Portal

After opening the homepage of your UAN member portal, you will be able to see many subheads that have different roles and functions. You can see the function of each subhead below-

‘View’ Tab

On the UAN member portal, you can see information such as your profile, service history, UAN card, and passbook. All of them will appear in the ‘View’ subhead.

  • Profile – If you want to check the complete profile of your UAN account then it is present under the ‘Profile’ tab. In this tab, you will be able to view your profile information such as name, UAN number, mobile number, email address, photograph, etc.

You can edit the above-mentioned information by clicking on the pen-like icon and update the changes.

  • Service History – You will get only one UAN in your life irrespective of the companies you have switched. As a result, multiple companies will provide the same UAN into the system, allowing the person’s full EPF contribution to be managed consistently and transparently. The “Service Details” tab will display the information such as Member ID, date of joining EPF, date of ending EPF, etc.

  • UAN card – You can view and download your UAN card under this section. This UAN card can be used at the time of offline PF withdrawal or for any other related purpose.
  • EPF Passbook – A passbook feature is available under the ‘View’ menu. To access your passbook, go to www.epfindia.gov.in and complete the instructions outlined below:
    • Open the ‘For Employees’ option from the Services menu.
    • Then choose the ‘Member Passbook’ option from the drop-down menu.
    • Now enter your UAN and password (the same as e-Sewa Portal).
    • To access the passbook, click on the Member ID of your current PF account.
    • You can also view the passbooks for your previous Member IDs.

‘Manage’ Tab

Under the ‘Manage’ tab, you can manage and modify your basic details such as contact details, and KYC document updation. You can even file e-nomination, which is now compulsory for successful PF amount withdrawal.

  • Basic details – In this section, you can update your name, gender, and date of birth.
  • Contact details – In this section, you can update your mobile number and email address through an authorization pin that will be sent to the new number for altering the contact number or email address. Your mobile number or Email ID will be updated once you enter the pin in the given field.
  • KYC – You can update your PAN card, passport, and bank account details in this section.
  • E-nomination – In this section, you can update your family details and file your e-nomination against any of your favored family members.

‘Online Services’ Tab

UAN Member e-sewa portal also provides you with a variety of online services. The services offered are given below.

  • Claim (Form 31, 19 and 10C & 10D) – The four forms in this claim section are Form 31, Form 19, Form 10C, and Form 10D. However, you should link your Aadhaar to UAN and your bank account in order to claim complete or partial withdrawal via these Claim Forms.
  • One Member – One EPF Account (Transfer Request) – You can also for your PF funds transfer from an old account to a new one. Before submitting the application for a PF transfer using the Portal, make sure that:
    • Your updated KYC information on the website is correct.
    • The UAN database is updated with your previous/current bank account information and IFSC code.
    • Employees should be aware that only one transfer request can be claimed on the previous PF account.
    • Check Claim Status – You can also use the UAN Login Portal to follow the status of EPF claims. If you’ve submitted a claim, you can track its progress in the ‘Track Claim Status’ area.
    • Download Annexure K – In this section, you can view and download the Annexure K form required for PF withdrawal.
