About Jammu and Kashmir Bank

Jammu and Kashmir bank is one of the first banks which was owned by the state government. It was established in the year 1938 and became operational a year later in 1939. It was founded on the basis of the letter patent issued by then King Hari Singh, the ruler of Jammu and Kashmir. He invited the investors to become the shareholder and founding directors of the bank. It was the semi-government bank whose half of the shares have been acquired by the government and rest of them by the public under the government control. It started with the aim to make the state of Jammu and Kashmir financially and economically strong and independent.

The bank has to face a major loss during the partition period when two out of the ten branches was on the other side. The capital amount along with other assets was lost. Then following the extension of central laws to the state the bank became the government property.The main aim of the bank is to increase and gain on the transformation and capitalize on the growth. It is the main sponsor of the Jammu and Kashmir Grameen bank. The bank wants to make sure that the best quality products and services are delivered to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
