About United Bank of India

United Bank of India is one of the major public sector banks in the country which has a created a name for itself in the banking world. The bank got nationalized on July 19, 1969. It came into existence in the year 1950 when four different banks, Bengal Central Bank Ltd., Comilla Banking Corporation Ltd., Comilla Union Bank Ltd. and Hooghly Bank Ltd. were merged together. During the period of 1969 when it was nationalized, the bank had 174 branches, ₹ 112 crores of advance and ₹  147 crores of deposits. But today the bank stands tall, where it is not only CBS enabled but also has 1999 offices and branches along with a total business of above ₹ 2 lakh crore. The bank has its main head office in Kolkata, in West Bengal. Currently, the bank has a three-tier organizational set up which consists of head office, regional offices and branches.

United Bank of India has always believed in delivering the best output when it comes to banking service. It has played a very big part in spreading banking service in the different states of India, especially the eastern and north-eastern belt. Four Rural regional banks in the states of Tripura, West Bengal, Assam and Manipur have been sponsored by United Bank of India. The bank has received many awards for its outstanding performance. In the year 2006, Ministry of small scale industries awarded it the National award. The award was for the second best performance when it came to financing small scale units.
