EPFO – Direct UAN Allotment by Employees
Last Updated : July 27, 2024, 12:04 p.m.
Having a UAN account is mandatory if you have an EPF account and you are contributing to it. So far employees were getting their UAN from their employers. But now EPFO has come with a new feature which is direct UAN allotment by employees. However, as the number will stay the same for the rest of your life, you are not allowed to own more than one UAN. Now employees can get a UAN without any involvement from employers. This new feature can be used by those employees who are fresher’s or new employees joining the workforce as well as employees who have old EPF accounts but whose UAN is not generated yet, now they can directly allot UAN to themselves through EPFO online portal.
In consideration of the challenges encountered by companies, the Unified Portal offers an open feature that allows any citizen (potential employee) to create their UAN using Aadhaar. Employees will receive an OTP on their Aadhaar-linked mobile device. Following data entry verification, the system will retrieve basic information from UIDAI, including name, DOB, gender, and father's or husband's name, and display it on the screen. UAN will be produced based on the input/fetched details.
